A quartet of familiar names make up the last four of this year’s Voneus Village Cup after Stayley defeated Thornton in their quarter-final against Thornton.

The Cheshire & Clwyd group winners claimed a six-wicket away win over the Yorkshire side, thanks to an innings of 119 not out by Liam Parkinson.

Batting first, Grant Soames (77) top-scored in Thornton’s innings of 201 for 9. There were three wickets apiece for Rhys Downend (3 for 42) and Leighton Parker (3 for 67), who is the competition’s leading wicket-taker on 16.

Among Parker’s scalps was Riche Wear (32), who is the tournament’s leading run-scorer on 359.

Opener Parkinson hit 16 fours and 2 sixes in his 95-ball innings, while captain Nick Woodhead (42 not out) was there with the centurion as the victory was confirmed.

Live Sports FM’s Luke Edwards covered the game, and post-match interviews with Parkinson and Woodhead can be found below.

Stayley now face Dumbleton, last year’s runners-up, at home in this Sunday’s semi-final.

Foxton Granta, the defending champions, welcome 1989 finalists Hambledon in the other last four clash.
